DrOmnibus – educational and therapeutic application for children with autism.

DrOmnibus is an international team of experienced experts: therapists (ABA and BCBA), psychologists, gaming and software developers, designers, marketing and sales specialists; developing an educational and therapeutic application for children with autism. DrOmnibis, the first company from Poland, and one of four European startups, which have won the Google Launchpad Accelerator for 2017.

The problem

Lack of diversity in the motivational system of children who use the application.

Our task was to develop mechanisms for fast, simple implementation of new rewarding games to an existing educational and therapeutic application for children with autism.
These games award children for reaching a determined skill level based on educational focuses (colors, numbers, vegetables, etc). To the set of already existing games (such as Balloons and Drums) we added two new types of games (such as Puzzle and Flashlight).

The solution

Mechanisms for the quick and simple implementation of new games.

Due to the implementation of new functionalities, we used the technologies: JS, Phaser JS, PHP, HTML, CSS.
The logical part of the application was created using a Phaser JS library based on the previously implemented engine. We used HTML and CSS to properly plan and modify the layout of the elements.
Puzzle is a game which represents a popular activity. Some realistic aspects were implemented into the game: joining elements from outside the frame and moving groups of elements together. In addition to Puzzle, we wrote a PHP script that allows you to cut elements with the correct shapes from the image.
Flashlight consists of finding a particular element in an image. At the start of the game, all of the image’s elements are revealed, but the game selects one element of the image to focus on, setting it apart. The player then searches the image for that particular element, using the flashlight to illuminate the object when it’s found. Animations are utilized in every part of the game.

Proprietary solution on the scale of the project.

Our activities introduced interesting new solutions across the entire project, raising its business value. The parts we introduced were implemented in a way so as not to disturb the operation of the application. We also provided a proprietary solution in the form of the previously mentioned cut-out script.

14 news games.

The DrOmnibus application received two mechanisms to implement fresh new awarding games. This has affected the overall picture and use of the application. The children motivated to learn by an award system are more likely to develop their skills.
